Tourism is a shared responsibility. The Union Ministry of Tourism frames policy and funds schemes such as Swadesh Darshan 2.0 and PRASHAD; States and Union Territories own and operate most destinations. The stated objective announced in the 2025-26 Union Budget is to develop 50 top destinations as world-class, integrated and sustainable hubs.

Addressed the Ministry of Tourism’s National Consultative Workshop on developing destinations to global standards at Kevadia, Gujarat, on 11 May 2026. Listed in the Lok Sabha on 16 March 2026 to report action taken on a Standing Committee report on niche and spiritual tourism.

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, launched in 2016, provides deposit-free LPG connections to women from poor households. The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas reports 10.35 crore beneficiaries as on 1 December 2025, with a targeted subsidy of ₹300 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to nine refills a year.

Answered for the scheme in the Rajya Sabha on 8 December 2025, in a written reply covering coverage, the additional 25 lakh connections approved for 2025-26 and the shift away from solid cooking fuels.

Stated in that reply that about 10 crore 33 lakh free LPG connections had been given to beneficiaries under the scheme across the country.

Ethanol blending in petrol averaged 19.24 per cent in the 2024-25 supply year; more than 130 compressed bio-gas plants have been commissioned under SATAT; and indicative sustainable aviation fuel blending targets of 1, 2 and 5 per cent have been set for international flights from 2027, 2028 and 2030.

PIB Year End Review 2025

Swachhata Pakhwada is a fortnight-long cleanliness programme run across Union ministries. The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas ran its 2026 edition from 1 to 15 July under the theme “Swachhta is Everyone’s Responsibility”, in association with Mission LiFE — Lifestyle for Environment.

Took part in the ministry’s Swachhata Pakhwada 2026 event at Amrita Vidyalayam, Perumbavoor, Kerala, on 9 July 2026, alongside Bharat Petroleum. The Press Information Bureau separately recorded that during his Rajya Sabha term he was known for advocacy on environmental issues.

Reported as urging citizens to make cleanliness a way of life at the Perumbavoor event.

PM-Kisan is a Government of India scheme providing direct financial assistance to farmers into their bank accounts. It is administered by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, not by either of the ministries in which Suresh Gopi serves.

Inaugurated the PM-Kisan Utsav Diwas event organised by ICAR-CTCRI in Thiruvananthapuram on 20 June 2026, held in connection with the release of the 23rd instalment of the scheme.

Said at the event that PM-Kisan is the world’s largest scheme providing direct financial assistance to farmers, and that farmers receive assistance directly in their bank accounts without intermediaries.

The Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute in Kolkata is a film and television training institute under the Government of India. Its president also chairs its governing council.

Nominated President of the institute and Chairman of its governing council in September 2023, for a term of three years. The nomination was announced by the then Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting.

Separately, in December 2024, inaugurated the second edition of Krishnaveni Sangeetha Neerajanam, a festival of Carnatic music, crafts and culinary heritage, at Vijayawada, in his capacity as Minister of State for Tourism.

Central schemes delivered in a State require the State government’s clearances and cooperation. That relationship is a recurring subject in public discussion of projects in Kerala.

In September 2026 he publicly credited the State government with cooperating on three Swadesh Darshan projects for Thrissur worth ₹99.7 crore, including the Sakthan Market modernisation.

The Aspirational District Programme is a Government of India initiative to improve outcomes in selected districts across health, nutrition, education, agriculture, infrastructure and financial inclusion. Union ministers are assigned districts to review.

Chaired a review meeting on the Aspirational District Programme at Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh, in February 2026, at which the “Tourism Boost Vision 2029” objective of developing 50 destinations by 2029 was also set out.

Reported as stating at that meeting that the Government of India is implementing the Vision 2029 objective to develop 50 top destinations as world-class, integrated and sustainable hubs.
