The Press Information Bureau recorded that Suresh Gopi “has officially taken charge as the Minister of State for the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas”, succeeding Shri Rameswar Teli, and that the Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, “extended a warm welcome”.

The ministry describes its own remit plainly: it “is responsible for exploration and production of oil and natural gas, refining, distribution and marketing of petroleum products, as well as their import, export and conservation.” Its stated national priorities are energy access, energy efficiency, energy sustainability and energy security.

Cleaner fuels,
and what they mean.

Ethanol blending

Ethanol blended into petrol reached an average of 19.24 per cent in the 2024-25 supply year. Advanced second-generation ethanol plants are operating at Panipat and Numaligarh under the Pradhan Mantri JI-VAN Yojana.

Compressed bio-gas

More than 130 plants commissioned under SATAT. From 2025-26, blending obligations for CBG in CNG and PNG became mandatory, supported by assistance for pipeline connectivity and biomass aggregation.

Sustainable aviation fuel

Indicative blending targets of 1, 2 and 5 per cent SAF in aviation turbine fuel for international flights from 2027, 2028 and 2030. Indian Oil became the first Indian company to receive ISCC CORSIA certification for SAF production, at Panipat.

Electric mobility at the forecourt

8,932 EV charging stations installed at retail outlets under FAME-II, with oil marketing companies setting up more than 18,500 further stations from their own resources.

Stated in a written reply that about 10 crore 33 lakh deposit-free LPG connections had been released under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, and that the scheme had shifted households away from burning wood, dung and crop residue.
